Thanksgiving for Rotarians -
A Message from Eileen

This year, in the middle of challenges that none of us could have imagined when the year began, my gratitude to all of you – as fellow Rotarians – is even more meaningful.  Many of you have been Rotarians far longer than I have.  I stand in awe of the impactful work that our club has done – indeed since it’s inception in 1956.  Over that time, our club and Rotary have evolved, which is good.  Change and innovation are required for any organization to survive and grow.  And this year, as never before, the need for innovation and creative approaches is necessary for survival.  Yet, through it all, Rotary stays true to the vision and core values that initially brought us all to Rotary and that keep us as Rotarians no matter what challenges are thrown our way.  I’m so proud – and grateful – for the opportunity to be a Rotarian.

Why is that?

It’s our shared vision… Together, Rotarians see a world where diverse people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

It’s our impact… As a global network of over 1 million people, Rotarians solve problems.  No challenge is too big for us.  Over the past 110 years, we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents to champion peace; fight illiteracy and poverty; promote clean water, family health, and economic self-sufficiency; and support education.

And it’s all of YOU…the friendship and fellowship that we share; the all-in-good-fun jokes; the camaraderie; and the support we offer each other in times of need.

This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful to be a Rotarian, to be a member of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club, and for the honor of serving as your President.

Wishing you all a healthy and happy Thanksgiving!

Yours in service,

Eileen

Save the Date for our Holiday Party!
The evening of Thursday, December 10.  A party like no other for a year like no other!  Dinner for you and your spouse or guest, music, and even virtual tables.

Tradition with a Twist:

In keeping with our theme of “everything’s different this year”, hats off to Joan and Jim for their innovative approach to this year’s Educator of the Year.  A week ago Saturday, Joan and Jim spent nine hours at the PV Golf Club carefully taping all the teachers for what will be a very special virtual event on February 4, 2021.  Add in the creative genius of Greg S. and Chris, and we can only imagine how amazing this will all be!  Here are some fun photos of Joan, Jim, and team at work.  Oh, and donations for our scholarship fund will be welcome right up till February 4.  So if you working on those year-end charitable donations, drop a check in the mail (payable to the PVP Rotary Club Foundation)..any amount welcome.  Contact Bruce, our fearless fundraising chair for Educator of the Year, with any questions.
